  1. I know it’s not directly related to the tweet or anything, but like yeah Father Ted is funny but fuck me sometimes people just speak in father Ted quotes especially I feel this time if year and their whole comedic personality revolves around it.

  2. The BBC needs to just put it out of it’s fucking misery at this point. I really enjoyed it early on but it’s pure shit now.

  3. Dyou know what, it wasn’t bad the first 2 or 3 Christmas specials. It was as my father says on B-Movies, popcorn for the mind. Popcorn got pretty stale however as even a year apart isn’t enough for people to forget the jokes are all the same.

So we just played Cards Against Humanity instead and had a better laugh than any show, especially as the drinks started flowing more and the more reserved members of the family suddenly came out with the filthiest answers!

  4. Unpopular opinion…Reddit is an echo chamber for the “Mrs. Brown’s Boys” hate. Something like 40% of Reddit is 18-29 and that’s certainly not the demographic that is giving Mrs. Brown’s Boys the ratings it needs to stay on television. So, while yes, most of us here can’t stand the show… there’s a massive amount of people, older than us, who love the show. I’m not trying to say it’s a great show or the pinnacle of comedy, but don’t come to Reddit incredulous that it’s still on television, wondering who on earth is watching the show… Look no further than your parents and grandparents and the type of comedy the majority of them grew up with and you’ll understand why it’s still on TV.

  5. How is it I have never seen Mrs Browns Boys?
I often wonder how I have avoided it.
    Some guardian Angel protecting me?

In saying that Brendan by all accounts is an absolute gent.

  6. I don’t like _Mrs Brown’s Boys_, but it makes my mammy happy and she’s had a shite year. So feck the haters.

  7. I’ve never understood how it could be seen as funny. It’s not even accidentally funny. Atrocious

  8. People talk about how bad the show is , too smutty , not funny , cringe etc but it is actually way worse than that .

Back in the 70’s and eighties some “comedians” realised that the way to make loads of cash and sell out shows was to appeal to the rampant racism that exists generally and let’s not forget casually in the UK population.

“Comics” like Bernard Manning and Jim Davidson realised that all you had to do was make fun of foreigners and you had a throne on the racism gravy train of the time.

In more recent times but before the resurgence of the Tories and their ilk the BBC among others have tried to whitewash certain old comedy shows such as Only Fools for example by dubbing the word “Irishman” over where Del boy used to say “Paddy” as a monicker for Irish folk.
I beleive this was a genuine attemp by the Beeb at the time to reduce this casual racism in comedy as it has been doing ever since the days of some mother’s do ‘ave em etc.

Brendan O’Carroll was a mediocre Dublin comedian almost unknown outside of Dublin never mind Ireland .

What Brendan has effectively achieved with Mrs Brown is to make millions off of racist Brits and Aussies ( The 2 countries where the show is most popular ) by reinforcing old negative stereotypes of the Irish people not to mention old folk and to a certain extent some would argue trans folk .

Basically using the same racist playbook that was so successfull in the 80’s to make a mountain of cash .

The effect of this strategy has however flown in the face of any and all attempts to move on from the bad old days of racist comedy and to my mind has set back relations between Brits and Irish decades by providing a way for racist people in the UK to lord it over us in their own minds using the nationalistic arrogance they are so well known for to reinforce their deep seated predjudice against the Irish nation and it’s people under the guise of comedy. Also the fact that this “comedy” is produced and acted out by Irish actors makes it okay in the minds of people who like racist comedy.

This is why when i hear about Brendan O’Carroll giving out a few turkeys at xmas in the Liberties in Dublin all I see is that he is using a miniscule amount of the mountin of cash he has made to curry favour with people he has spent years ridiculing to racist gammons in the UK and Australia.

It amazes me that he is
so liked and loved in this country , he should be exiled to the
    Antarctic.
