Every week we hear of more young Irish people having to leave their own country as the future looks so bad for them here.
Such a sense of entitlement, she gives out about not having a life because she is living at home with her parents but chooses not to move out and rent even though she can afford because it’s “dead money”.
The long working days, which entail leaving her house at 6.30am and returning home mid-evening, or sometimes as late as 11pm if work requires it, leave her little time for her “actual life”.
That’s not going to change just because you are renting or own a house… Nothing got to do with it, she has a hard job by the sounds of it…
And yes the rents here are sky high, but if you can afford it why are you still at home ? Sounds to me like she does not know what she wants… It don’t matter whether you find a cheap place or an expensive place, its all dead money… But if you find a place, you have your independence, and you can move on from there…
They must write these rage bait articles on purpose. Of course the housing market is screwed, but this person isnt not a good of example of somebody badly impacted.
I did this 15 years ago, I also didn’t want to pay rent which would have been a significant chunk of my wages. Staying home to save on money if the conditions are right is not a bad idea. Most 25 year olds either have to stay home or house share.
The story goes on a tangent on how they work late and are exhausted all the time. Whats what got to do with the housing market ? Its not reflective of anything other than her having a tough job. Infact it makes even more sense to stay home if your life is just working a job, your not missing out.
I left home at 18 and shared a room with a stranger. I did that rather than stay at home. Many years of shared flats, bedsits, couches etc. I’m still glad I left home.
If you think rent is “dead money” you’re going to live in your childhood bedroom anywhere else in the world too. My sister had the same way of thinking and lived with our parents until she was 28 and that was in Poland. Meanwhile I moved out and started renting a room as soon as I got a part time job and a scholarship from university when I was 22. The rent was more than half of what I earned each month but still worth it.
Im mid-20s at home and it’s so grim, I pay a measly rent to my folks of 300 for the room, but honestly wish I c/would move out, unfortunately with rent prices in Dublin, the odds of me ever owning a home are dependent on living with my parents until my late-20s or 30s. Life feels so stagnant in this situation.
Edit: I see I’m getting down voted, I would like to hear other people’s opinions, even if they think I won’t like to hear it
25 is hardly bad though
Hopefully FF and FG will get the form the next government, because they’ll fix this problem. Won’t they? Guys? Guys, won’t they?
Heres a glimpse of how bad it is. Me and my partner both early 30s, have a 2 year old son. Currently living with my parents as we have been for the last 2 years saving for a mortgage. We were renting before that for 3 years paying 1300 a month for a 1 bed apartment. We make just under 100k a year combined, have 45k savings and we still cant find a suitable house. Both of our jobs are based in dublin so we cant just pack up and move down the country. A few weeks ago we put a bid in on a 2 bed house 420k, we got outbidded and the house ended up selling for 466k(yes a fucking 2 bed). The whole housing market is beyond insane at the moment and I genuinely dont know how people are affording to buy anything
I left home when I was 18. I spent many, many years living in shit holes with people I didn’t like. I was happy I left home though. Adults should not live at home with their parents
