2. This sort of claim will be seized upon by Russians and their stooges if it isn’t true, so hopefully (a) this is being said responsibly and (b) it’s true.

3. Not just a top general, but the top general. Balanced view, he says it’s too early to say whether the offensive has succeeded or failed. I am guessing that establishing artillery fire control over Tokmak will be viewed as the threshold of success, which is within sight. But not just a matter of pressing further south. They have to widen the wedge and further suppress Russian artillery, to make it safe to move the western guns forward.

   Another marker of success will be, not losing any significant ground to Russian advances elsewhere on the front. Ukraine is likely to achieve significantly more than just putting a crimp on the land corridor in the coming weeks.
