My MIL has family living a comparable distance away. She always says that she doesn’t want any surprise visits, as if she is told by her daughter that they’ll visit in (e.g.) six months, then she’ll be happier for those six months, looking forward to it. Certainly an interesting perspective. But you know, do what works for you! Happy Christmas!
