I would love if they did it simultaneously like those American military funerals you see in films. It loses a level of ceremony when it’s just one after the other like this.
It’s crazy. Especially for the area. Then again only this weekend while visiting family .. second feast for same church .. accept one is blue and one is red .. totally aligned with political parties.
It was the reds this weekend. The Celebrations seemed to be a dress rehearsal for a Political meeting.
Now either these are the most dedicated religious fanatics on the planet or something even more bizarre was going on. Off course, for all the dancing and jumping that was going on to celebrate some saint or holy Mary, if the party says abortion at 9 months is fine, every single one of them would applaud.
Now this is not about one choice over another. This comment is about the innate hypocrisy that is part of the culture. The idea that you can as the old saying goes ‘worship god and the devil’ at the same time. You see this mindset in everything in malta .. the complete contradictions and the mindset that you can eat the cake and have it too. The ability to ignore the connection between cause and affect.
It’s either some kind of mass psychosis, could be some kind of mental illness or retardidness or maybe the greed and dishonesty allows the contradictions to co-exist.
Maybe the Maltese mind is like Schrödinger cat .. both dead and alive at the same time.
The issue here is the connection with the total destruction of the environment of which the hunting lobby plays a big part.
But these religious celebrations are permeated with politics.
The church should get some balls and take a stance. Trying to hold on to influence by sucking up to politics is just a slow dead. They lost everyone’s respect, starting with the ones that turn up for these feast without giving a fuck about faith or morality.
I don’t think the church should stand by while ‘god’s creation’ is blown to bits for sports. Stand for something apart from creepy and worthless rituals.
