Camera surveillance of bus lanes, cycle paths and junctions needed, says National Transport Authority

  1. What they need in particular is on-bus enforcement cameras. Hooked up to automatic number plate recognition, automatic FCPN if you’re in a bus lane and a bus happens to see you.

Works a treat elsewhere, and drivers can’t just learn where the cameras are.

  2. We would over night stop 99% of motorists acting the maggot if we could upload dashcam footage to some Garda site and be rewarded with a percentage of any fine.

  3. I can’t wait to see the GDPR experts / Civil Liberties types try to shoot down an imminently sensible proposal that would benefit all road users.

  4. Bus Connects is now planning on using a load of bus gates. Sections off roads and streets you won’t be allowed go down. Sometimes even just junction turns and similar. We have a small number today, mainly in Dublin but there’ll be a lot more soon.

I really don’t see any way that those will have much of an effect without camera enforcement.

  5. I’d be more worried now about running on time and reliably first.
