So Zelensky sees the truth of the matter and will act accordingly. I’m shocked! Shocked! I tell you.
Not my support tho. If it were up to me the appropriate response to invading kyiv would be invading moscow.
Tit for tat. Instead ukraine’s constrained to meh for tat due to political cowardice
As long as they don’t start striking kindergartens etc, I think the majority of non politicians are still on their side. A (good) bit of revenge has to happen.
^( but yea the politicians are the ones that decide, so his situation isn’t easy)
It sounds like he trying to say China. I’m not sure which western nation would pull support if they are striking military targets inside Russia
Strike lots of military targets deep inside Russia… yes, please! Carry out military missions on Russian territory… definitely. The more the merrier.
But full scale invasion? I’m hoping we learnt the hard lesson from Afghanistan. Winning the peace on enemy territory is much harder than winning the war and is incredibly costly. The Russian empire has nothing Ukraine or the rest of Europe needs.
Kick ’em out and build a giant wall to keep them out.
Scandalous.
Some ‘major powers’ should be ashamed.
This is not just “any attack against Russia.”
Zelensky is talking specifically about moving Ukrainian Army troops into Russia. Blue and yellow flags, boots on the ground in Belgorod. That kind of thing.
Ukraine has been attacking Russian military assets within Russia since the start of the war. They continue to do so today.
Mostly, of course, Ukraine has been prioritizing its immediate short-term survival over figuring out new and varied ways to strike Russia. But as Ukraine stabilizes its front lines at home and starts to make more progress in its current counteroffensive, it has more resources available for more attacks over the border. Which — I don’t know if anyone has noticed — Ukraine is using. Daily.
So, once again, this is not about “can Ukraine attack Russia at all ever omg aaaah who will give them permissions oh dear oh dear,” that is not a conversation anyone is having, anywhere.
This is about overt troop deployments onto Russian soil. Which Ukraine has the capacity to achieve at this point, but as Zelensky says, there are political costs to that move. For now, Ukraine is contenting itself with the capabilities of allied Russian internal anti-government forces, with Ukraine helping them at arm’s length from across the border.
And honestly from Ukraine’s point of view that may be sufficient. This past summer, Russia formally devolved into autonomous security zones. Quietly a huge move that represents a massive lurch toward total breakup. Like, 1989-1990 levels of huge.
So local regions are on their own now when it comes to territorial defense. Which also means that Moscow can no longer count on their participation in or support for the war — a province called upon to provide more conscripts can now simply say, “fuck you, we are using all our conscripts for our own territorial defense, what army are you going to send to compel us?”
Given the recent revolts in Belgorod and Kursk it may be that Russians themselves will succeed in anti-Putinist occupation of Russian territory before Ukraine ever gets around to reconsidering it.
That’s why Ukraine needs long range cruise missiles to hit every factory in Western Russia producing munitions. Level them to the ground.
I mean, the west needs Russia to fail spectacularly to deter further acts of aggression, but doesn’t want to risk Russia retaliating with nuclear weapons. Russia believing they’re about to be occupied is the one situation under which nuclear retaliation might actually happen.
Whether or not you agree with it, it’s not an unreasonable position.
The goal is to just kick the Vatniks out of Donetsk, Luhansk and Crimea.
There is no need to send Ukraine soldiers into Rostov, Kursk or Belgorod.
Russia may have pulled the trigger of this war, but Europe financed, supplied and enabled it. Never forget that European politicians are enemies №2.
