Long article short – Dept of Agriculture put pressure on EPA to not name big agribusiness which use large quantities of fresh water in their operations.
/ The awareness around Ireland’s inconsistent water quality has been growing thanks to reports by the EPA demonstrating many of Ireland’s water bodies failing to show significant improvement in recent years.
However, the EPA eventually had to be ordered to release its water abstraction register by the Office of the Commissioner for Environmental Information (OCEI) after it previously resisted moves to publish the list.
The case was appealed to the OCEI by campaign group Right to Know.”/
The Dept itself is under pressure from the IFA etc to do their bidding for them in many ways, including matters relating to the environment.
Farm lobby showing their power again.
Ridiculous that the EPA folded to them.
At the very least, the license should mandate that all water extraction must be down stream of the used waste water pipe.
