This is a fee for the open canals and the radio. Even if you don’t use such or don’t even have the option to do so, you still gotta pay.
If someone in your household already pays that, you can send them their “Beitragsnummer” and you don’t have to pay extra

This is the result of 3 years ignoring official letters from them asking you to cooperate and sign up, which is your legal obligation – unless you have a reason to be excempt.
The next letter will be a court ordered payment with a lot of added fees. If you ignore this one, your future in germany will get very complicated – major red flag in your credit score and such.
I have been thinking from long to ask it here but I guess may be its the time.
The concept of GEZ/ARD/WDR is that no party (even the one in Government) cannot influence the media/news (kind of neutral media) that goes into Public so that they can cast the vote based on their own opinion. Here are my questions…
1. A foreigner living in Germany cannot vote for the German Parliament (Bundestag) until he gets the German Nationality. So in this case why should someone not even eligible for vote should pay for this…?
2. Someone who doesn’t have enough knowledge of German would be denied a job (exceptions exist) and i think its fine as someone moving into a country should know the language and its fair reason to deny a job. On the other hand the person will still be charged for this GEZ eventhough he/she doesn’t understand anything !! Is it fair here ?
3. I know its not a lot of money for someone working here, but there are multiple sources which say the people working in GEZ/ARD/WDR are paid atleast 30-40% more than their private counterparts….
4. Is there any agency that checks the money they receive and the expenses they make ?? Or are they left on their own and can increase the monthly contributions however they want ??
This is not a rant but just my thoughts on this GEZ. Anyone can correct/enlighten me…!!
