Absolutely amazing news that I didn’t expect to happen as a Green Bay fan – the guy he is replacing was very solid last year in a position where the Packers have been gank for almost all of my twenty years watching the sport.
This isn’t just “making the squad” either, NFL teams only carry one punter, which is basically the guy that boots the ball down the far end of the field when your team is about to lose possession. It’s maybe the last glamorous position on the roster, but a very good one can make a world of difference.
His family moved to the US when he was 13 (he’s 24 now) but I don’t think there’s been an Irishman in the NFL before, so this is a fantastic achievement for him, and if anyone wants a bandwagon to jump on, well Green Bay’s colours?
