Ukrainian pilot Juice, March 2022: ‘I don’t want a one-way ticket, I want to kill somebody, not just be killed. That’s the main point. We are ready to be killed. We are ready, but we don’t want. We want to be effective. That’s why we need the tools.’

Nolan Peterson, a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council think-tank, interviewed Juice in March 2022:^1
>While on 24/7 quick reaction alert, or QRA, Juice alternates 24-hour time blocks with a fellow MiG-29 “Fulcrum” pilot, trading spots as either No. 1 or No. 2 — meaning he’s either at the plate or on deck, always ready for “intercepting targets.”
>That arrangement is shared by the other pilots in his squadron. There is no true day off.
Peterson paid tribute to Juice upon reports of the pilot’s demise:^2
>“I didn’t want to comment on this until I had it confirmed through the right sources, but I’m just gutted by the death of ‘Juice.’ The stories he told me about flying his MiG-29 in combat against Russia are the stuff of epics. He is a hero and will be rightly remembered as such.”
Ukrainian air force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat told *The Independent* that Juice was the “main driver of an advocacy group promoting many decisions on the F-16s”, who was “in constant contact with Californian pilots”.^3

“The object of *war is not* to *die for your country* but to make the *other* bastard *die* for his.”
