I recently got back from Norway and we were very confused about the small, empty boats that were ~10-15 metres from the shore. The question is, why aren’t the boats attached to the shore and are just left hanging on the water? How do you even get to them? By swimming? Or are they used to get into a bigger boat?

    I don’t know about this one but at our cabin we have a buoy in the water connected to two ropes anchored on shore, which we can use to pull the boat in or out. The rope loops through the buoy back to land.
