Why is it that the ‘free speech’ fanatics never talk about clearcut examples such as the Tory policy of banning people who have criticised the Government from speaking at Whitehall events, or when the PM forced a major newspaper into not publishing a story relating to his wife, instead its always an ambiguous defence of those with extreme or unpopular views on race or climate change being denied a ‘platform’.
We don’t have free speech in this country and we never have done, but it’s not because people don’t want to give others a platform. Not wishing to give someone a platform is in and of itself a freedom.
Examples of people’s right to free speech and expression being infringed on are the arrests made for protesting the coronation, or people being sent to prison for making unpleasant jokes, especially when those jokes were made in private.
