Gardaí have warned that “no amnesty” will be given to those who are in possession of controlled drugs at Electric Picnic this year, despite the HSE announcing that drug ‘surrender bins’ will be in operation at again.
The bins will allow festival-goers to surrender their drugs and receive drug support from members of the HSE, as part of their harm reduction scheme.
In a statement to The Journal gardaí confirmed that no amnesty will be given to those found in possession of drugs and that normal legislation and garda enforcement plans will apply.

Gardai are just enforcing the law.
The HSE seems to think it can create its own Hamsterdam.
While the HSE are trying to do good, they have no legal basis to do so.
Last March 200+ first time offenders appeared in court.
In lieu of a conviction, each paid into the poor box….totalling €53,650.

I will never understand how the Gards seem to have the numbers and resources in spades when it comes to a few people bringing drugs into a festival but they don’t when it’s people getting their heads kicked in by gangs for no reason.
This is pathetic! Very hard to have respect for the force when this cowardly shite continues. Without doubt, the war on drugs has majorly damaged the relationship between Gardai and the communities of Ireland.
Yet there will be a video of a Gard chasing his own jaw like there was last year.
Absolutely ludicrous stuff. More than 20 years ago people could go to raves and festivals all across Europe, have their drugs tested for quality and then sent on their way being told to have a good time and we’re still dealing with this caveman approach.
The HSE running a harm reduction scheme and the Gardai running a harm infliction scheme.
Why the EP organisers had any sense they would advertise themselves as a far right hate group, start burning out homeless camps and local buildings, threaten and harass library staff and openly threaten the lives of anyone they dont like. There wouldnt be a guard in sight for miles
