
Today, Croatia marks 16 year anniversary of the Kornati tragedy. In 2007, 12 brave firefighters died there, trying to extinguish the fire. Around 2.500 volunteers led by firefighters and builders, built 12 massive crosses in their honor.

Today, Croatia marks 16 year anniversary of the Kornati tragedy. In 2007, 12 brave firefighters died there, trying to extinguish the fire. Around 2.500 volunteers led by firefighters and builders, built 12 massive crosses in their honor.

The crosses are 25 meters long and 15 meters wide. They were made with human hands, without use of any machinery and by connecting the elements using the drywall technique. Each cross has three plaques with the name of the firefighter, name of the volunteer firefighter association where he belonged and a verse chosen by the family.

No one was found responsible for the tragedy.
