  1. >Newly released records from the 1970s and 80s show homophobic attitudes within the civil service.

This was long ago, just in case anyone decides to just read the headline and jump to conclusions.

Obviously we’ve evolved as a people and have gotten more inclusive and I can say that as a straight guy with gay family and friends, it warms my heart to see same-sex, or any other LGBTQ+, couples walking around, holding hands, linking arms etc. Same feeling I get when I see a straight couple doing it. It’s nice to see people enjoying themselves in love 😊

  2. It was illegal to be gay when I turned 18… This country has come far, it would be nice if we could keep those gains though, there seems to be a lot of hatred seeping in again.

  3. These days such displays will lead to scrotes throwing rocks at you. How far we’ve come.

  4. The majority of homophobia these days comes from the groups that the government protects the most – but nobody wants to talk about that

  5. They should add the Supreme Court in the 90’s into the article.

“Incurable homosexual” is probably the strangest term you’ll find in a supreme court judgement

  6. Didn’t the Garda just say this about what decriminalising drugs would do?

    Gotta love this country

  7. I like to think we are making progress. I feel even in the last 10 years we’ve made some enormous strides in regards to sexual and gender identity.

Hopefully in another 10 years we’ll be even further down the path of societal acceptance for it all.

It’s not “what a person is” – it’s “what a person does” that matters.

  8. Reactionary conservatives always sound the exact same no matter what year it is or what their current bugbear is, it’s gas

  9. Gay and I never participate in PDA. Even the tiniest bit, don’t want the wrong people to see me, follow and try kill me…

but yea, this is a ‘choice’

  10. The country made progress, but it’s going backwards again.

  11. Well, as I gay man I am able to now publicly display my homosexual affection without fear of being criminalised, so I guess it did come to pass 🤣
