  1. Makes sense anyway seeing as people are living and working longer right across the board.

  2. They did this in the UK with some forces. Best thing to do, you attract more people with a bit more life experience. Nothing wrong with young gardaí but people who have been in different careers or having families have a lot to offer to the role as well.

  3. Makes sense. There are many 40 year olds taking care of themselves these days and in better health than a 30 year would have been back, say, thirty years ago.

    An overall physical will help too.

  4. I could see them getting many more recruits if they regionalised where they will be based. Going to templemore, then Dublin, then a random location won’t get anyone other than young single people. Anyone with a house and kids won’t uproot their life for it. Was fine in the days of single income houses when it was a vocation, but people need 2 incomes and don’t have flexibily to move as they used to.
