  1. It’s a fair request. I’m sure many of us could have terrible ancestors traced back to us, but what good is it to publicly name and shame her ? If she’s profiting directly from an estate built on the back of slavery then that’s different

  2. > Mr Al Nasir claimed in his research: “The estate of Samuel Sandbach was 5,000 acres, it incorporated not only Hafodunos Hall, sold off in the 1930s, but the surrounding farms, with cottages that now form part of Antoinette Sandbach’s estates known as Hafodunos Farms Limited.”

Convenient that she is still profiting off a slaveowner’s ill-gotten gains, if she apparently objects so much to his behaviour.

  3. There’s an element of Streisand effect here.. Strongly suspect I’d never have known who Antoinette Sandbach was if this had stayed in the realm of academic research and she hadn’t tried to fight it.

She’s in danger of making her links to slavery the most famous thing about her.

  4. Old money wants to hide that their old money has slavery links.

She should have just owned it and the reputation. This just makes her look like she wants to hide the information. It also doesn’t help that the land is still owned by the family.

His research seems genuine and academic. Censoring academia is a dangerous avenue. I wholly agree with continuing the research and presentation of it

  5. This is a classic example of what people miss about slavery – they assume it was all done and dusted. The advantage and the profit made during slavery can be still seen today.

The best trick that the rich ever pulled was making it seem any research into slavery would affect poor non-black people. In the same way they have made people believe reparations will affect poor non-black people.

  6. As you say, a fundamental principle at stake here and it’s not the ‘right to be forgotten’ – more strength to you sir, don’t let them squirm free

  7. Are we researching all historic figures who were involved in slavery? I have a few suggestions Mr Malik Al Nasir.
