Grant is the MP for the town I grew up in and I once had the (dis)pleasure of meeting him. The man is completely useless and they must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel if he is the choice honestly.

This is a shame as Ben Wallace was a really good Defence Secretary. Not sure why he didn’t wait until the elections though as its likely we will get a labour government then.
So we have gone from a Defence Secretary who is a former Officer in the Army who was mentioned in dispatches to an MP that started out life as a photocopier salesman.
Tobias Ellwood would have been the much better decision. Shapps is an idiot

This can only mean there’s a lot of desperate Tories knocking about, 5 cabinet positions in a year is absolutely insane.
I get why Wallace has gone – no NATO job so needs time out of direct defence work in order to go into the industry later – but it is galling to see the only competent minister replaced by 3 raccoons in a trench coat
the question is whether he is the best candidate or just the most politically expedient?
we live in difficult times with an ongoing “hot war” at the eastern border of Europe,
surely now is the time for competence over all other considerations…

Honestly very uncomfortable with this. Wallace was fairly competent overall, Shapps has fucked up 4 other cabinet roles in the last year alone. He’s one of the last people I’d want in charge of defence
