As a gen Z with no bias, gotta go with blur

  1. I’ll always go with Oasis. Wonderwall single was the 1st tape cassette I ever bought.

  2. Graham Coxon is an unbelievable guitarist and blurs sound is more diverse but Oasis had a raw edge. You could literally put Oasis on for any occasion even though they have a limited range of style. Both were great at writing anthems though. I am not a huge fan of either but I do enjoy their music and their contributions to it. If Noel Gallagher wasn’t a musician he would have made a great comedian because of his whit. If Albern wasn’t a musician he would have made a great writer. So talent was oozing out of both bands from the start. It wasn’t an accident they became so big.

  3. At the time, it was Oasis all the way.

    Reflecting now…..it’s Blur.

  4. I’d side with blur just for their range. Oasis were enjoyable but listening back I feel they’re more of a time whereas many blur tracks feel less dated.

  5. For sure Blur.

Oasis was more popular at the time but looking back at in now, Damon Albarn is where it’s at.

  6. Both had their place. Blue for party mode, oasis for more of a rock vibe.

  7. Oasis

Blur wasn’t even the best band Albarn has been a part of.

  8. Blur, Oasis were extremely one note and overplayed (fuck you)

  9. Dude, you’re reopening old wounds which have barely healed!

As I see it though, Blur wrote songs _about_ the working class. Oasis wrote songs _for_ the working class.

Which is better? If I’m in a rock n roll mood, Oasis. If I’m feeling more introspective, Blur. Damon Albarn’s lyrics are brilliant. Oasis – if you look at the lyrics for Supersonic for example, they are nonsense. But it’s still a great song.

I’m of the controversial opinion that they’re both different, solid bands and you don’t need to have a preference! Having said that, Pulp are my favourite 😊

  10. Blur.Never got Oasis- crap lyrics and Liam’s voice sounded like a Dublin scrote on helium.

  11. I think Blur has aged better than Oasis. Albarn is far more talented than the Gallaghers.

  12. Correct answer – They are both a teensy tiny bit over rated.

  13. Blur. I think it’s aged better and their catalogue is more versatile

  14. Blur all the way.

    Anybody else remember slane 95?

Liam got pissed off with people throwing plastic cups on stage so he told anybody who wasn’t there for the music to fuck off …so the first few rows did.

  15. I’m gonna be honest, I don’t think Oasis are even close to Blurs level. Its controversial but I feel like Oasis were a one album wonder.

  16. Blur look good on hindsight because of Gorillaz.

Song one was the only good song either Blur or Oasis ever made.

  17. Blur were more consistent. Have a bigger repertoire of absolute bangers. But the best tracks of the era were Wonderwall & Don’t Look Back in Anger.

  18. As a kid, I loved Oasis, as I got older I realised Damon Albarn won the war when Gorillaz stayed fresh and relevant a decade after the Gallagher boys were boring. But overall, maybe it’s my Birmingham upbringing but my favourite is… Ocean Colour Scene.

  19. Also gen Z.

How were these two even considered comparable, oasis sounds so dated and one note.

Blur holds up to this day.

  20. Never got the whole Blur v Oasis thing.
Both completely different bands, different genres, different songwriting styles.
Just the UK media bunched them together, just because they each had a single out at the same time.

  21. Has anyone noticed Damon Albarn sounds exactly like 2D from Gorillaz? Strange coincidence isn’t it?

  22. Definitely Blur. No question.

In the Oasis early days, Noel Gallagher was a bit of a control in the way he played all guitar and bass on recordings. Listening back, you can hear how the sound was monolithic and lacking creativity, even if the melodies were decent. Bass and rhythm guitars were played to support the lead.

On the other hand, you can hear the creativity seeping in Blur’s sound, between Coxen and Alburn. Even the bass lines on *Leisure* were fun, compared to that of *Definitely Maybe*.
