Russia more than doubled salaries of some soldiers, but is still struggling to recruit people to fight in Ukraine

  1. Doesn’t fit the consensus in this subreddit (“Russians are an indoctrinated population that worships their dear leader”!) but fits all events so far.

    I’ve been reading about Russia struggling to find recruits since JULY 2022, only a couple months into the war.

    In a country of 140 milion people, of which supposedly 75% of people approve the invasion of Ukraine,the Russian army is struggling to find couple hundred thousands of recruits.

    Even after offering salaries of close to 3-4000 DOLLARS a month(which is what the Bundeswehr pays recruits here in Germany ),they still don’t find enough people to volunteer in the army ,and they have to force them by conscription.

    If Ukrainian Redditors hate Russians,I don’t blame them at all,and I fully support ALL military aid to Ukraine except for nuclear weapons.

    But im just sick of this stupid point of view that doesn’t fit reality.

    Back in 2021,Russian was struggling to raise it’s COVID vaccination rate above 40% and even then a lot of people got vaccinated on paper while their doctors were throwing the vaccine doses in the sink.

    So you want to tell me that the same Russians who don’t trust the government promoted vaccine would trust their government about Ukraine?

    Russians are largelly chronically apolitical and don’t trust anyone,the church ,the state and even their own family.

    Propaganda has failed to raise enthusiasm for war so far among the population

  2. I couldn’t understand the logic of this. If someone can enlighten me I will be happy. It is said Russia has almost 1.5 million (only Russian Armed Forces) active military personnel and 2 million reserves. Why do they need to recruit?

    I mean there is always an atmosphere like Russia can’t conscript and send soldiers to Ukraine in the last two years. Somehow this doesn’t seem logical to me.

  3. 75% could in theory approve and also not want to die in a pointless war.
    But also the data is coming out of Russia so let’s be honest, probably not all that reliable.
