Tech titans, including TikTok and Twitter, failed to effectively tackle Russian disinformation online during the first year of the war in Ukraine, according to a study published Wednesday by the EU. The European Union has previously warned against online manipulation and interference by Russia targeting the European internet in the wake of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Reddit falls into this category too. The admins should be much more proactive in banning obviously pro-Russia opinions.
I wasn’t active on Reddit back then, I was mostly on 9gag. It was inundated with Russians misinformation and many of us saw it as a challenge to sniff it out and debunk it. Most of it is extremely obvious anyway.
EU should slap a hefty fines to these companies.
Whole Central Europe is ridden by Russian disiformation war on social media. Facebook finally hired one person for Czech and Slovak republic to address this. One person. That is a joke.
