  1. So, Germany gave themselves up as a country. Good to know.

Just imagine living in a country that values itself so lowly that they think it‘s acceptable that some of their citizens have loyalty to another state.

  2. Didn’t know there were countries who still weren’t allowing dual citizenship. It’s 2023.

  3. Im very pro-European but I don’t think dual citizenship is a good thing. Maybe only between EU member states.
As mentioned by another Redditor it’s a loyalty issue. You can’t be loyal to two countries at once. What happens when there’s a war? You’d have to pick a side. Conversely, you’d have enemies of the state living in your country.
What happens if those countries both require you to do military service?
And if you’re telling me it’s far fetched : look at all those Russians protesting for putin and his war in Germany.

  4. Germany already allows dual citizenship. I’ve had dual German citizenship for 35 years!

  5. German lawyer here: the draft of the new Citizenship Law still has to be approved by our parliament (Bundestag)

  6. Terrible idea. It should be limited to EU members only and only those whom you do NOT share a border with.
So germans cannot be french or poles, spaniards cannot be portugese, romanians cannot be hungarians, etc

Germany stumbling from one blunder to another.
First Putler with the gas, now this. This won’t end well in the long run…

  7. I wonder if this is that they can legally revoke the citizenship of those who are/ were in Syria/Iraq as part of IS without trial, similar to how the UK has done.
