  1. The census shows there are [160,000 vacant properties in Ireland](https://www.google.com/search?q=how+many+vacant+properties+in+ireland&oq=how+many+vacant+prope&aqs=chrome.0.0i512j69i57j0i512l2j0i22i30l3j0i390i650l2.4489j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8)

It seems the government would rather ask the public to use the space in their own *occupied* homes rather than use taxation to force people with *spare*, *unoccupied* homes to put them on the market.

Either the government is floundering helplessly or they are so ideologically bent on not disturbing people’s property rights that they will go to almost any extreme. Neither is good.

  2. “Create a new class of people who permanently live in a room in someone else’s house and have no tenancy rights please”

  3. Wow imagine being in your 30’s and having to live in digs. Thats fucking grim. You’d probably be better off at home , it’d be cheaper anyway.

  4. We’ll need a bigger trebuchet to get these damaging policy-bankrupts into orbit.

  5. I’ve three spare rooms and could definitly do with the help with the mortgage, but I really don’t want to deal with the off chance of getting a troublesome tennant who breaks something or won’t leave or decides to stop paying rent.

And i want to be able to walk around in my boxers on Sunday mornings without being judged.

  6. I own my own 4 bed. I live alone.. I saved for years. Rented with good people but also a lot of strangers and lunatics. . I’m still not letting a room out. Because now I have my peace .. I earned my house.

  7. I’m sorry but I’ve suffered house sharing enough. I want to walk about in my underwear and have earned the privilege of farting when I feel like it.

  8. While I’m fully aware how difficult things are for anyone looking for housing and support pretty much anything and anyone that’ll increase supply and lower prices I don’t want to share my gaf. I shared for YEARS it was the pits and now I’ve finally a bit of peace and privacy I’m not giving it up.

BUILD MORE HOMES. BUILD AFFORDABLE HOMES. BUILD THEM YESTERDAY.

  9. I may have one spare bedroom but I’ve still only got one toilet for everyone to share so no thank you.

  10. It’s not down to the people to do the job the government had 11 years to do

  11. Pay for the governments mistake by giving away any ounce of privacy and sanity you have left

  12. They need to up the 14k threshold regarding tax.

And including money received for bills in the 14k is ridiculous.
