  1. September 1st press briefing at the White House:^1

    >White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the United States had seen progress near the Zaporizhzhya region in the last 72 hours.

    >“They have achieved some success against that second line of Russian defenses,” Kirby said.

    >He also acknowledged criticism of Ukraine’s counteroffensive “by anonymous officials,” saying this was “not helpful.”

    >“Any objective observer of this counteroffensive, you can’t deny […] that they have made progress now,” Kirby added.

  2. Yes they have and they will surely get trough that line and the next also the next one.

However please excuse my question: What then? Rain season begins in 2-6 weeks tops, which will halt any mechanized progress. So Ukraine won’t be able to capitalize on their success which they worked so hard to achieve. In the meantime Russia will keep on digging. Just as we have already seen on the Velyka Novosilka axis, where a second comprehensive line has been created since the start of the offensive. The scenario being that after the ground has frozen Ukraine would be faced by a newly fortified line.

Honest question. What’s your take? Kann Ukraine sustain to just slowly edge their way to the seas, I mean they will get there eventually. Or do they have to focus more troops on this one front. Maybe create a few more tactical offensive axis of advance, perhaps Stepove-Vaselyvka line and Hulyaipole-Bilmak line?

  3. I seem to recall this time last year, everyone crying, are we there yet?

  4. Pff Ukraine should be in Sevastopol by now. They should have cut Russia off from the Sea of Azov. They should have liberated the entire Donbas. Obviously they are doing it wrong.

In fact… by now, Ukraine should have burned the Winter Palace, captured Shoigu, seized Vostok Station, and forced Putin tearfully to his knees in apology as the entirety of Russia chants in unison, “Forgive us, forgive us,” over and over again in 11-part Old Slavonian.

Anything less than that represents total abject failure on the part of Ukraine, and certainly indicates that Zelensky must immediately sue for peace, offer Kyiv to Putin for free, and personally write a letter to the New York Times in which he praises their editorial board for their superhuman prescience and infallible devotion to objectivity.

I mean, come on people, what’s the hold up???

  5. I have the feeling that those ‘reports’ of ‘disappointing’ and ‘slow’ progress by Ukraine are a distinct propaganda push. Too may coming out all at the same time by ‘anonymous’ authors and ‘spokesmen’ without any credentials.

    Ridiculous.
