NATO and Obama were very weak then. Might be weaker now with Biden. I hope not.
Poor US leadership is the death knell of democracy unless Europe does something, which unfortunately we won’t.
If you say that Putin invaded Ukraine by supporting insurgents, you are also saying England and France invaded Libya, and that’s awkward for them to admit. Atlantic hypocrisy is helping legitimize Russian action.
Thank you so much for the reference!
That’s an oversimplification. It’s actually a conflict between people in the east who consider themselves ethnically and culturally Russian versus those in the west who want to join the EU and NATO. Most people in Donbass want to secede from Ukraine. It’s the Ukrainian government sending their military to the east to attack them.
That user flair text. 👍
This cannot be said often enough
I guess if Russia is not in Eastern Ukraine as they claim, and if it is really an internal matter of Ukraine as they maintain, then they should have no issues with NATO or any Western country giving material support to Ukraine with the explicit goal of taking back control of those territories. But of course if that would happen, then Russia would most likely react as if they themselves were attacked.
Who in their right state of mind pays attention to American warmongering think tanks?
Like Putin said:
If Nato gives 100% proof that they won’t let the US surround Russian boarders with missiles, then Russia doesn’t need to mess with Ukraine.
I am baffled at how biased this sub is. Not even once have i ever seen the other side of the story exposed.
Says a lot about Reddit tbh.
>Nevertheless, as the current crisis has amply demonstrated, many
international news outlets are still unsure of exactly how to
characterize the war in Ukraine and remain reluctant to unequivocally
identity Russia as the aggressor. Instead, coverage is dominated by
euphemistic language and vague terminology that prevents audiences from
understanding the full extent of Russia’s responsibility for the
conflict.
best tell the media exactly how to do their jobs then and put words in their mouth. Right or wrong, this is not journalism, this is a dictated or influenced narrative.
freakishly close to ‘approved messaging’. Surely we can uphold our values without undermining essential parts of our democracy… if we want to claim the high ground that is
