UK rents rise faster in deprived areas – and drag more people into poverty

  1. If only we had a large group of housing that was state owned to make sure that the most vulnerable in our society had somewhere to live at a reasonable cost.

  2. And, importantly, the local housing allowance is not keeping pace with the increases.

  3. I’ve been trying to get a 2 bed semi to move from a 1 bed semi. Every single house has at least 20 applicants.

The market is absolutely nuts right now.

  4. I live in one of these areas but am not affected by rent

£550 is now £850 and that’s the cheapest end

Guess where lots of people that arrived here recently get placed?

A: not where most of the people with their placards live

That’s cut the available stock right down for people already here

I’d guesstimate it caused 2/3 of all rentals to be filled leaving 1/3 for locals

    Then : landlords

  5. Landlords swoop in on cheap properties in deprived areas miles away from where they live, using leverage. Rates go up and they bleed the people who live there for whatever they can get.

    We need regulation now.

The other day I was reading a post from an American who was buying flats in Bolton to diversify his portfolio.

The government is basically making people on low incomes into investments to be exploited as much as possible

  6. Should have probably not introduced right to buy then? Or should have actually replaced these properties…

Honestly the U.K. is just a mess 😂
