Bit of nostalgia going on here today when the (Australian) wife mentioned if there were any particular foods I missed from Ireland.

Of course Jambons were one of the first things mentioned alongside Bacon and Cabbage etc etc

We can’t buy Jambons here so decided to have a crack making them myself! Not bad for the first effort. A couple of tweeks and they’ll be spot on

  1. Have you tried a second bake under heat lights for 5-6 hours to really get that authentic finish?

    Seriously though those look great.

What did you use for the filling? Is it just cheese and ham?

Try: 100g chopped smoked ham, 120g grated Emmental, 2 medium eggs, a pinch of salt and pepper and the tiniest squeeze of lemon juice.

That’s for about 15 Jambons so adjust as needed.

  2. I found the trick is to hold back on the cheese a slight bit. Sometimes it sweat’s a water/ cheese seeps out all over. That is if you want aesthetic pleasing ones. But they look yum, god I love jambons

  3. Nostalgia for traditional Irish food like. .. jambons. 🤣 I’m sure they’re delish though; well done.

  4. I’m going through a soda bread phase here in Brisbane. Gonna make some of those though. Love a jambon.
