‘I understand perfectly well that the country is at war and any attacks on the army are not a positive thing. But I could not let the guys go into battle with the Chinese tourniquets.’ — Medical Service doctor allegedly ‘demonstrated insubordination’ in raising concerns about quality of tourniquets

The medical commander of the 82nd Brigade allegedly violated five points of the Charter of the Internal Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and one of the points of the Disciplinary Charter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to information from the Military Law Enforcement Service available to Ukrainska Pravda.^1
Anton Shevchuk in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda:^1
>“On 18 July, I saw Oksana [Korchynska – ed.] and asked her to help change the tourniquets.
>“I got a call, said that a commission from the Medical Forces Command was coming to us to check the quality of the tourniquets – as I later learned, they simply pulled out the packaged tourniquets, the combat doctors applied them to a limb and checked the pulse.
>“Then a post appeared saying the tourniquets did not need to be replaced. The former head of the brigade convinced me that everything was fine with them.
>“But on 22 July, we received permission to replace the tourniquets, later I applied for the replacement of the occlusive dressings, which were also s**t. They were replaced immediately.
>“I was told that there had been a big fuss.
>“As far as I understood, there had been two appeals by MPs to the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces – they really wanted to shut me up, to convince everyone that this was because of me, but I didn’t even know those MPs.
>“There was an investigation, I wrote that I initially applied… I did not want to make it a scandal, I understand perfectly well that the country is at war and any attacks on the army are not a positive thing. But I could not let the guys go into battle with the Chinese tourniquets.
>“I have not yet been reprimanded, although it was issued on 27 July. It concerns the fact that I have demonstrated insubordination.”

Nobody ever wants to hear bad news, especially not in the middle of a crisis.
But you have to hear it all the same. The alternative of hiding your head in the sand is far, far worse.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing,”
Same thing here. If someone isn’t willing to stand up and say something good men die.
‘The number of poor-quality tourniquets that the Medical Forces Command initially issued to the 82nd Brigade exceeds 10,000.”
The military personnel is the ones who’s gonna win this war, they deserve to be treated with decent medical equipment if something happens to them in battle against the russian terrorists.
How is this poor quality tourniquets as they are simple straps? Would like to know exactly how the are poor.
Not doubting yet.
And several bad ones forwarded to press.
Always question did he actually go up chain of command including alternative channels firmly enough?
If resigning an option he is honor bound to do that first then go public. This is the traditional way for officers.
NOTHING is made in china to make it better. Things are ONLY made in china to make them cheaper.
You either explain the risks to your boss on time or you end up explaining the consequences to your boss or worse, to the families that just lost someone.
This is something I say to every new employee and I have a software house. Small. And yes. Some mistakes have the potential to kill even here.
This guy is also a hero.
Can’t rule out the possibility that someone higher up is getting kickbacks by making the UA use cheap, unreliable Chinese tourniquets.
Definitely needs a corruption investigation into this.
Let’s say China is doing the US CIA trick of deliberately designing faulty equipment to be copied or stolen.
Knowing that troops have a higher value in UA than in the RF, China would be greatly costing Ukraine in troop power. 10,000 UA = 50,000 RF. I can see the CCP quietly doing the math. Sick but feasible.
This problems with cheap knock-off tourniquets has been all over social media recently, especially the Chinese junk. Lots of videos demonstrating their terrible quality.
Toronto Globe and Mail posted a lengthy article about this also. Updated Sept. 1
