  1. I wouldn’t want to go to war either. But odds are if you join Ukraine’s military you are almost definitely not going to go and fight on the frontlines. I do not know the ratio for Ukraine but usually for every dude with a gun there maybe as high as 10 people supporting him in some way. Russia has the same problem and it might be worse, like 12 people supporting one soldier.

The real problem is you will not get to choose to take a support role. And I have doubts that you will ever be rotated out if you get a support position.

  2. This sounds terrible but I guess it’s the price to pay to keep your sovereignty and freedom. Слава Україні

  3. I think this is really clever. It will incentivize non-skilled youth to apply to school to possibly get a pass on being drafted. There’s a lot of outside western influence and investment coming into the country and having a more educated population would help you take a vantage of that better. It’s a two birds, one stone situation. 60,000 people isn’t a lot in terms of a percent of the number of people drafted but if that opportunity incentivized 120,000 people to go to school then you would get the benefit of educating your population, and still having relatively the same size population to draft from.

Edit: Got it backwards. My bad. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦

  4. The more people join in on the fight, the sooner it’s over.

  5. Every single young Ukrainian who has to go to war is sad news.

    And yet it‘s the necessities.

I don‘t know what the requests to other countries are at the moment – but for Germans this is a good reminder to call your member of parliament and politely ask why the delivery of TAURUS missiles hasn‘t been granted yet.
France and the UK are providing similar – so we should be in lockstep. (As Olaf has always emphasized we should!)

The more high-tech military support Ukraine receives, the less young Ukrainians will end up conscripted or, in the worst case, dying. We want to see Ukrainian students in the Erasmus program – rather than in a war. But for that, the war needs to be won.

  6. Trying to escape military conscription via the education loophole when your country is at war is shameful. Everyone, needs to be contributing to the war effort.
