  1. Another symptom of Broken Britain. As living standards drop and people become more desperate, crime is going to increase. You’d have to be stooping pretty low to assault someone in a supermarket just trying to do their job.

  2. Most of the little Tescos have had their security guards taken away and staff hours cut so a lot of the time there are only two people working a late shift. The Tesco boss has made some good points in the last day or two but he conveniently ignores the company’s own actions in making staff feel unsafe at work.

  3. How much time is left before “the mob” tries to “protect” these companies?

  4. Bodycams won’t accomplish much unless law enforcement takes action. People hide their license plates, run quickly, and wear masks.

  5. Supermarkets/convenience stores went on a purge of staff like 10 years ago, this isn’t just a new cost of living thing it’s been brewing for a long time because most shifts are covered by a skeleton crew.

The Co-Op I worked in back then went from 4 staff at night to 2 and shop lifting went way up, worst one I remember was a dude walked in with a bin liner, swept the whole cheese display into it and just walked out.

  6. Should work both ways. Friend of mine has been assaulted and robbed by one of supermarket workers, but nothing has been done.

Seems like we are entering the third world country level of lawlessness.

  7. interesting how they can invest in security but not pay their employees a living wage

  8. At my local Tesco express they have a lock on the sliding entry so the staff can filter out the scagheads , They have a fob to let you in. Putting the security of a business and making it the responsibility of a minimum wage part timer is the lowest of the low. You want to stop shoplifting then pay for security , Multi million profit company TESCO, Cheats you on pricing and cheats staff .

  9. But I thought they were all desperate mothers trying to make ends meet?
