  1. As always, the words in that very public moment matter. Barely anyone even reads about the ‘oh no the consequences of my words make me publicly feign to reconsider weeks later’. As no doubt the catholic church took another hit in many areas whre it already had a quite precarious position due the consequences of certain ways of dealing with things.

No different from ‘news’ outlets that publish lies verbatim in the moment to generate clicks, only to ‘fact-check’ after no one cares. And only to uphold their ‘reputation’. The damage is done, the newsworty moment is over. You failed and your msg or what you amplify will remain what it was in the moment.

This doesn’t reach. The original did. And i just cannot grasp that that is a hard concept to understand for anyone.

    Edit: cannot type

  2. He or his PR handlers are playing both sides. First he issues a pro Russia statement. Then he apologizes.

  3. If you wanna pick things from Russia to celebrate Mr Pope then may I suggest Mendeleev? Dude came up with the basis for the periodic table. No empires and subjugation of people’s in that choice.

And my favourite Victor Burakov, the guy who caught Andrei Chikatilo although he was a Soviet, no idea what nationality.

  4. What about the things your priests do to kids? Fucking cunt.

  5. I thought the pope, as gods representative on earth, spoke the infallible word God? Its almost as if the whole thing is a complete load of fucking shit.

  6. After making remarks so bad that the official Vatican publication removed them from the transcript…

After a week to think about it and get educated, this is the best he can say:

“Russia has a great heritage in the field of literature, in the field of music, up to Dostoevsky, who today speaks to us of a mature humanism. So that they [Russian youth – ed.] could take on this humanism that was developing in art and literature. Speaking about the great Russia, perhaps not so much in the geographical sense as in the cultural sense, I remembered what we were taught at school: Peter the Great, Catherine the Great. And then this element popped up, which is probably not quite correct. I don’t know. Let historians tell us. But it came to my mind because I studied it at school.”

Ratzinger set a very low bar, and I was thinking Francis was pretty good by comparison. But this … “probably not quite correct, I dunno, I’ll abdicate all my moral responsibility and let historians figure it out”

It’s really not a good look for a world religion that’s only a few decades away from “Hitler’s Pope.”

  7. All the church wants is your money. Wonder how much Russian money they get?

  8. May Pope Francis be revealed as the con artist that he truly be

  9. The Pope needs to clean his own house of clammy hand kids touchers before telling others how to act…

  10. Oh screw him! You don’t need a PhD to figure out that this was dumb to say

  11. Isn’t the Pope the ambassador to God? Worldly ambassadors have started wars by mis-speaking.

  12. The guy who based his whole existence on a fairy tale is trying to make some sense of ruzzian terrorism. He’s going to need a few more lifetimes to grasp the concepts.

  13. They only see the surface of it just like during “Holodomor”.

  14. I consider myself Catholic but have not been to church in quite some time.

    I follow Ukraine closely.

There seems to be no downside to going all in on supporting Ukraine outwardly for the Vatican. It’s actually a moral imperative.

What is going to be the negative outcome for the Vatican should the Pope condemn Russia?

If people have access to unrestricted media, there’s no excuse to even claim neutrality. There’s an aggressor state versus a sovereign nation.

    It’s not nuanced or complex.

Fuck. The catholic church that I grew up with is a joke.

  15. Since the Pope is the counterpart to the Mouth of Sauron for god, did god make a mistake or did he change his mind? Either way, he is no longer infallible. Of course, his rape of a minor should have told us that.
