Well, that’s the prison overcrowding crisis solved. Tickets to Germany all round!
One less Romanian drug dealer in the UK who now appears to be free to run around Europe.
> The decision has been described as a “severe rebuke” and “an embarrassment for the UK” by a member of the Law Society.
It’s anything but. It shows the German legal system, and the laws they rely on to make such decisions for what it is. Pathetic.
> The Albanian man is not wanted for offences committed in Germany and the court determined that as it did not receive the assurances it asked for from the UK authorities, the man would not be extradited. He is currently free again.
Top work, lads. And (I say this a remainer before you kick off), people wonder why a large swathe of the public didn’t feel a connection to the EU or its members.
When was the last time someone escaped from a British prison by jumping over the fence on a motorcycle or a mass escape through a secretly dug tunnel or during an illconcieved football match between the guards and the inmates. I think Germany need to take look at themselves before commenting on our prisons.
Germany didn’t, some pounce judge with a liberal interpretation of the ECHR did
Lawyers are always really good at manipulating the ECHR for their client’s benefit.
Over time, governments not wishing to look soft on crime have increased sentences so our jails are crowded and are also run by private companies, and the less they spend on staff, buildings and inmates, the more profit they make.
The tories keep on telling us that things are fine but i have yet to see Thérèse Coffey go river swimming, Ministers taking their families on UK beach holidays and the education minister jumping up and down on flat roofed school buildings with RAAC roofs to prove just how safe they are.
AFAIK, the only competent Minister was Ben Wallace, who has now quit as Defence Minister and has been replaced by Grant Shapps AKA Corrine Stockheath, Michael Green and Sebastian Fox.

The partial privatisation of the parole board was a disaster and wasn’t generally publicised because most of our media covers up tory mistakes.
https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/jun/11/probation-services-to-return-to-public-control-after-grayling-disasters and I’m not surprised that a German court didn’t want to extradite a suspected criminal, they probably feel the same way about many other countries prison systems.
