A Ukrainian Challenger 2 tank was destroyed near Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. A damaged T-64BV and two destroyed IMVs can be seen too. This is the first confirmed loss of this tank in Ukraine and is also the first one ever destroyed by enemy action.

  3. This may be off-topic, but that Ukrainians still have to drive around in civilian cars near a hot front line after more than 1 year of war is crazy. They should sit in a Humvee, M113 or similar. This shows how deliveries are still not enough.

  5. IIRC the Challenger 2 variant to Ukraine doesn’t have the classified ‘Chobham’ armour that the British Army uses and this is due to concerns Russia would obtain the secrets of the material.

    If correct, this would make the tank more vulnerable to being destroyed

  8. It was going to happen eventually. The Challenger 2 has enjoyed air superiority throughout its career. Now it’s participating in a counteroffensive where it has no air support whatsoever, making this war it’s greatest challenge yet. The Abrams will also meet the same fate when it arrives in Ukraine.

    I hope the UK sends a replacement, but seeing as production of the Challenger 2 ended two decades ago, it’s probably unlikely.
