  1. Td of my area, actually a nice fellah from what I’ve seen and heard ( I’m sure the replies will disagree with hate as usual )

  2. Makes sense as he’s getting on. I’m sure they’ll be kicking themselves as he was sure to have held his seat but that will be a harder ask (still pretty likely) now.

  3. Big loss for Fine Gael. Bruton had a huge personal vote in the area which may not go to another FG candidate. For example, last time they ran the (in fairness, hopeless) Catherine Noone and she managed just over 3%. They ran Naoise Ó Muirí with him the time before that who didn’t manage to break 4%, albeit they had a third running mate who came in on less than 2.5%.

You’d expect there to still be a FG seat in Dublin Bay North, but it’s going to be a harder fought campaign than one with Bruton. Given how little Noone did despite huge resources put behind her it’s going to take a lot of time and effort from them.

  4. Wasn’t the same man in recent years. Very weak debating on radio interviews etc. Almost like he gave up politically around the time of the water charges. The party wheeled him out to make apologies or excuses from time to time.

  5. Shame he was never made the leader of FG. Smart fella and would have been a good Taoiseach.

  6. I’ll wish him the best in his retirement & congrats on years of public service, but I am happy to see the old school FG’rs moving on. As a whole they’re a party I have no respect for & who I want to see well a truly beaten in the next election.

  7. He wanted out last time but they made him stay. Anyway he won’t be stuck for a few bob.
