Lukashenka decided to ban the exchange and issuance of Belarusian passports through consular offices abroad. It was the only option for hundreds of thousands of Belarusians who fled repressions to have a passport of their own country.

  1. That’s devastating – there are so many Belarusians, who opposed Lukashenko in 2020 and now they will be stuck in a limbo. Absolutely heartbreaking.

  2. you know you are the best leader, when you need to punish those who fled your wonderful regime

but then again, his aspirations are worse than thís

  3. I know a person living in Belarus their whole life with Russian citizenship who recently gave it up in order to apply for Belarusian citizenship instead. All the sanctions on Russian citizens made it difficult for them to migrate to the EU.
In reality this might make persecuted persons refugee applications easier.
