The Azerbaijani president’s uncompromising stance is a huge political error, which increases hatred. His blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh is also, and above all, a challenge to the most elementary rules of international law. By turning a blind eye to warnings issued by the United Nations’ International Court of Justice back in February, Aliyev is exposing himself to serious accusations. Luis Moreno Ocampo, a former prosecutor for the International Criminal Court, has already sounded the alarm, stating in a report published in August that “there is an ongoing genocide against 120,000 Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh.” Baku took offense, but the 1948 UN Convention states that “deliberately inflicting on a group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part” should be considered genocide.
Azerbaijan is literally amassing troops and weaponry along the Armenian border I don’t think they’re gonna let off their aggression until a global superpower forces them to
Or else what? More sternly worded letters?
The time for actions was the day the blockade started. Honestly, this weak response from the global community is appalling. People are dying from starvation.
This is a genocide.
A reminder that not only has Azerbaijan stopped any aid whatsoever coming to the Armenians in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) but they also stop every Armenian person that tries to leave and go to Armenia. They stop them, take anything that has Armenian symbols on it, and routinely arrest men on false charges, where they are then never seen again.
Hope they get the post-Yugoslavia Serbia treatment of this continues on.
