There are surely some teachers in the tens of thousands of Ukrainians now in Ireland
Pretty sure one of the stipulations of going on a career break, and having your position help for you for years, is that you can’t take up a position in another school.
The disgrace here is that career breaks are given to teachers at a time when we need more, not fewer, of them. Career breaks are a perk, not a right. School boards and principles need to learn how to say no.
Typically career breaks are renewed annually up to a max no. of years. We have a lack of teachers partly because career breaks are granted and re-authorised time and time again, as if they are a right.
So, if your school doesn’t have enough teachers and some are on career break then make it known to the principal that they need to stop renewing the breaks as if there are no consequences.
