[Students caught cheating in the Leaving Cert](https://www.instagram.com/p/Cw2jqL6M6Ld/?igshid=NzZhOTFlYzFmZQ==) having results withheld. When I was in school, teachers would try scare us and say we couldn’t do state exams like driving theory tests etc for 10 years, is this still/ever was the case?

Anyone know anyone that got caught cheating and what were the repercussions ?

  1. I actually did cheat on it. Maths. It was back in the days of log books. I just brought in my own with loads of notes and formulae written inside. They didn’t even spot it. Even handed it up when they were collecting them. Got away with it…until I got to college and found myself completely out of my depth. Whatever about getting caught etc…it genuinely wasn’t worth it. I was completely lost.

  2. In my experience, the lads that would cheat are the lads trying to bump themselves up from 250 points to 260 points. It did not matter one bit.

  3. I think the ban is for real (not sure if ten years). Person on my degree course was cheating like mad on all exams. Got ratted out. Adjudicator comes up on the last half HR of the last exam “can you open you glasses case please”. Cheat sheet springs out of it like an accordion. So close, so very very close 😣

  4. Wrote down quotes for English. Dates for history and formulae for Maths.

I’m not rain man and this rote learning stuff is bullshit. I could tell you the uprising of the Nazi party but wouldn’t remember precise dates and what’s the need to know them in an absolute sense.

Why couldn’t I just say “In September of 1939 war was declared”.

The leaving cert is not for learning it’s for remembering and regurgitating. There is no fairness in that so fuck that game.

  5. Brother new a fella who snuck the phone in. He was let off in the end I think

  6. Was ready to cheat but couldn’t figure out how to read the notes so kept some bullet points.

  7. There was the writing on the wall in the jacks thing. That was some mafia level organisation 🙂

  8. I did the student supervising when I was in 5th year, we would sit outside the class room and bring students to the toilets, this one guy who I knew a little went to the toilet I walked him down he was taking ages in a cubicle.

I was like might as well pee, washed my hands and as was leaving the bathroom he walked out of the cubicle, the toilet seat was up and fell down, he had a text book resting behind, I just walked out of the bathroom and waited for him, we didn’t speak about it on the way back to the classroom and I never mentioned it to anyone

  9. I did the leaving cert in the second year of predicted grades. Cheated in all my school exams that they use to predict your grades. Did well. In college now and its piss easy as well

Edit: People saying lads who cheated were getting low points anyway~ I always did well in school and ended up getting over 500 points. I was just lazy

  10. I took a few things to each exam. Just a few dates for history, key words for English and formulae for maths. Stuff that I could memorise but might forget on the day. I think they should allow one page to level the playing field. Being able to rite learn boosts your result by a full grade vs someone who understands just as much on the subject.

  11. A few lads in my class used to hide notes under the toilet tanks and ask to go to the bathroom when they needed inspiration.
