Hei kaikki! I’m a software developer with about 10 years of experience, currently living alone in Bulgaria with only a cat. I’m strongly considering migrating to Finland for good because I just want to move away from this awful and corrupt place, and let my future children have a chance in a better life.
I have a bunch of worries before initiating the plan, and I’d love if you could help me with some answers:
1. How could I find a job, what are the most common places to look for this? LinkedIn seems relatively empty, but [duunitori.fi](https://duunitori.fi) seems okay. Any other site? Should I search for a recruiter to assist me with this?
2. Is it possible to have a remote interview (from abroad), perhaps start working remotely as a contractor until everything is sorted and I get my residence permit and personal identity code?
3. How can I find a place to live? Most flats for rent are empty and I need to bring my own furniture, which is impossible. What is the best approach here?
4. Let’s say I find a furnished home – most of them would not accept pets. Is this negotiable, even if the deposit is doubled?
5. How is the office work? Is everyone nowadays working mostly from home or in hybrid mode? It’s pointless to move to another country just to work at home, so I’d love if I could meet some new people from the workplace or any other social gathering.
6. My Finnish is relatively basic and language courses are quite hard to find in my country. I was thinking of improving it after I migrate, but I can try to find a course before that. What’s the best approach?
7. Should I even move there? I’m planning on blending in and embracing the culture, including learning the language and getting a citizenship. Would people even be receptive of me, or I’ll always be treated as a foreigner?
Kiitos etukäteen!
