  1. Now, it’s completely a personal experience when choosing what to put on a Hönökaka. I usually top it with Skagenröra which will hopefully be in your local grocery as well. Otherwise treat it like a normal sandwich. Slap some cheese and butter on it or some smoked ham!

  2. Here are some ways i eat hönökaka :
Butter, fried falukorv, fried egg and ketchup.
    Butter, ham, mustard and cheese.
    Spreadable cheese, leeks and peppers.
Butter, boiled egg and anchovy or kaviar or mayo.
Egg and chicken salad with mayo, pickles, peppers and hot sauce.

  3. Other then it can be used as a base to make smörgåstårta people just eat it as a sandwich. I think cheese and ham is most popular in Sweden, maybe some cucumber as well, I’ll go for cheese, salami and tomatoes on my basic sandwich tho.

  4. I have to say that I am a “Åkes hönökaka” guy but that said I say keep it simple. Butter and greve or other lagerd/stored cheese, Lindströms gräddpastej or just butter and Ejderns kaviar. Let the bread live.

The most important thing about hönökaka is that it is fresh, old hönökaka is very different than fresh.

  5. It’s as the rest said, everyone has their own version.

My personal favourite is either shrimp salad, or liverpaste (sounds horrible in English) with salted pickles on top

  6. I top my Hönökaka with all sort of things. Ham and cheese, skagenröra, leverpastej, etc.

One naughty treat i used to do years ago was take a whole piece and cover it with extra salted butter and sea salt, and into the oven(180c ~10min). It’s a calorie bomb but it sits well after a hard day’s work.

  7. På finska betyder Hönö något liknande som ”Pajas” i svenskan

  8. My go to toppings for Hönökaka is either kaviar or mackerel in tomato sauce 👌

  9. Just a thick layer of butter and drink a large glass of O’boy with it.

Not the healthiest, but stupidly good.

  10. That’s the fantastic thing about Hönökaka, it goes with pretty much everything. Ham, cheese, salami, liver pâté, cooked Falukorv, raw Falukorv… you name it! It may not be the most nutritious bread in Sweden, but I’ll be damned if it isn’t the tastiest! Just make sure you buy some fiber bread as well, as a complement.

  11. Butter, with or without cheese.

something to dip it in is mandatory tho, preferablly hot chocholate or tea

  12. Varm/grillad med smör + oboy det gjorde man många gånger har inte haft det på så många år fyfan
