Yes. Imagine the EU had close ties with the UK. We could cooperate economically. Maybe the UK could join the single market at some point.
The EU is finally realising that the need Britain more than Britain needs the EU. The clearing houses did not move, London is still the main financial hub this side of the world. Having Britain lose interest and diverge even further from the EU would be immensely damaging for the whole of Europe.
Pay the same as EU members but with no role in decision making. Ideal for the EU.
The EU likely wants a close defence/security agreement with the UK. Picking fights over non-issues is counter productive and they might me finally realising its better to have the UK on friendly terms rather than constant friction.
It’s not going to involve anything where there isn’t an equilibrium of net contributions between the two like Horizon has. One example is Erasmus.
