The US will provide Ukraine with 190 MRAP mine-resistant wheeled armored vehicles, says the US ambassador to Ukraine.

1. Better Ukraine has them than my local small town police department.

2. I’m guessing this will end up being a lot more tha 190 units, since I think the US military still has a huge excess stockpile they want to get rid of.

4. This is a big deal. Ukraine hasn’t been losing many tanks, but they have been losing lots of APCs. This is because of the nature of the conflict in the southern region. Most Trench Assaults are started with an artillery barrage whilst drones survey the position. and then several squads of Ukrainian infantry will drive directly towards the trench in vehicles like M113, BMP, and Stryker, distract and terrorize the Russians with suppressive fire, and then Ukrainian infantry will attempt to flank the Russians whilst the vehicles engage. The russian infantry pee their pants at the sound of .50 and 30mm rounds ripping trees apart, and by the time they realize what’s happening, they get fragged to bits.

   Tl:Dr more vehicles like these means that Ukrainians can conduct assaults knowing they are in vehicles known for saving lives in combat, even in the midst of heavy fire.

5. How many mine hits can these vehicles take?

   Unless these mraps can survive several hits, US needs to be providing more mine clearance equipment.
