> There were at least 40-50 kids being sent home. Some of the fathers were kicking off and swearing at the school gates as they were obviously very upset about it.
Maybe they should have made sure their children were adhering to the school dress code.
Back in the day (I’m 33) we had a true arsehole of a teacher who used to pop two shirt buttons, roll up his sleeves above his elbows and swig from a Pepsi Max bottle on his desk on a summer’s day, while having a go at us the moment our ties weren’t so tight that our collars were chafing at our sweaty necks.
School uniform policy has been a bugbear for decades and in hindsight the kids did have and do have a point. “Too hot in summer and too cold in winter” was the meme when I was at school and nothing has changed since by the sounds of it.
Schools which prioritise compliance with uniform above all else have a very odd idea of what they exist for
My complaint is more the requirement for branded fucking everything. I know when we allowed schools to become academies we accepted some privatisation to occur but they are fully treating education like a business now rather than a basic human right. My kids school enforce branding on everything so you can’t even get shirts elsewhere, P.E kit, branding even in shorts and trousers. It’s robbery for low income families. Plus their archaic insistent that kids must wear wooly sweater vests regardless of the weather, again branded, it’s just madness. Some will argue it’s preparing you for adult life. Unless you plan to work in retail, uniform is not identical for everyone. It’s varied and in most places, relaxed dress code as people now realise people don’t act more professional if they are in a bloody three piece suit.
