  1. “Hey – Once I Had a Horse” is performed here by the wonderful group **Гуртоправці** (Hurtopravtsi), from a recording they made in 2005.

    The song has a long history; it was composed from a folk song heard by famous Ukrainian composer of Czech origin, Alois Yedlichka (1821 – 1894) in the Poltava region. The words were crystallized by the talented Yakiv Shchoholiv (1823 – 1898) of the Ukrainian Romantics movement of poets.
