I’m looking into buying a BMW R850R from 1997, but on the german papers the VIN only has 12 digits, does anybody know if it’s legit?

  1. I would not post the actual VIN online as it may be used by someone for fraud.

    Older motorbikes did have shorter VIN numbers. I’m not sure if it was 11 or 12 digits.

    There are online resources to check the FIN / VIN, and also you could ask any car trader / BMW branch to check it for you.
