I remember listening to a Doctor talk about the [Swiss approach ](https://www.northcarolinahealthnews.org/2019/01/21/switzerland-couldnt-stop-drug-users-so-it-started-supporting-them/) to the heroin addiction problem and for me it makes the most sense. Treating the addicts like a person with a treatable illness rather than criminals. I believe that once people are diagnosed as suffering from heroin addiction they receive prescription doses for free. Rather than having to commit minor crime to get money to buy it on the streets. Then if you are a stable patient you can actually take prescriptions home.
