Can somebody explain what this “bussignal” is? The light is flashing.

  1. There’s a bus-stop nearby, and this light indicates if there are people waiting there, or not. I suppose there’s a button to push.

If not, the bus will just pass by and not turn off the highway.
(Well, unless someone is getting off at that stop, of course.)

Edit: [Found the bus stop](https://i.imgur.com/yTrRiqB.jpg). It’s right after you turn left towards Smedsbyn from E4/E10. Unless someone is waiting, the bus will not turn off E4/E10 and just continue north.
It’s also a commuter parking lot, equipped with electrical outlets for block heaters, where people from nearby villages can park their cars and continue to their final destination with bus.

  2. When you get out to the countryside, you often do not have infrastructure around bus stop such as dedicated lights from an electric grid.

Combine that with a bus stop that maybe serves 0-5 people a day and 5 hours of daylight in the winter and the bus drivers have an easier time telling if someone wants to take the bus instead of blowing past the bus stop on 70-100km/h roads.

Sometimes if there is no electricity at all you might also find a reflective disc that you can spin to indicate that someone is by the stop.

  3. The flashing means nobody is at the bus stop and the bus can pass by without going in to the stop. If you push the button the signal will turn off (for 15 minutes) and the bus have to go into the stop.

This means if the signal breaks down it will give the same indication (off) as when activated, and the bus will have to go into the stop to check for riders.
