Ukrainian forces were able to take the initiative at the Avdiivka front and push Russian forces all the way back to Opytne and even contest the northern part of the village. Fierce battles are taking place.

  1. Whilst I’d give the utmost credit to the UAF for this, don’t read too much into it.

Avdiikva has been a defensive front long before February 2022: there’s no-where to push the Russians, Donetsk city is not a feasible or important objective for the UAF.

Ukrainian gains in this area aren’t as important as elsewhere, particularly Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and you shouldn’t expect anything other than opportunistic results from Donetsk Oblast.

  2. Ukraine needs to get across that river fast so as not to give them time to retreat and dig in more than they have already, maybe a few nighttime crossings by groups of fighters sneaking up to russian entrenchments will do it, but who knows what Ukraine will have planned to advance.

  3. Is losing territory you previously considered safe a sign that Puccia is winning? asking for an angry monkey with a large table

  4. They can probably hear the battle in Donetsk City.

The world expects Ukraine to push to Melitopol and the Azov, then Ukraine takes Donetsk. SOP.

  5. I saw that blue area yesterday, thought it was an error. Nice to see it was for real.
