It is a style of Cretan mantinada (short rhyming poem, usually 4 lines long), that they traditionally also carve to knives. This knife possibly belongs to a Cretan that decided to gift it to you…
Are you..in danger?
Two facts that might give some insight.
1)The rhyme was traditionaly meant for the knife and how the owner always carries it around with him.
2)This particular knife, I’m 99% sure, is handmade forged damascus steel, which makes it VERY expensive, I’d say in the range of 300-500€.
Dunno if any of this means anything at all in your situation but there. Hope everything is OK and this has all been some romantic gesture by your ex.
A bit info on the blade first. The blade is. a Damascus skiner and its worth a pretty penny if its a real Damascus. The knife handle material ads to the knife value but i cant see it in photo. From what i see its not the cheap kinda knife you just buy in a tourist shop only a handful of craftsman on Crete that can make this blade. The writing on the blade it is called mantinada also a Cretan thing of great significance. If you put all this together you got a great gesture not to be taken lightly by many ppl in that part of the world that value honor family love and pride.
